The origin of the play on words; the blend of breakfast and lunch: Brunch, still remains pretty much unknown. However, the term to reference the activity that mimics a Sunday feast on a much lighter scale, was birthed in an 1895 article titled Brunch: A Plea, penned by British author, Guy Beringer. The underlying meaning of Brunch is simply a late-morning meal and Beringer suggested this type of smaller feast as an alternative to the heavy, post-church meals on a Sunday.
Nowadays, Brunch has been used to form get-togethers for birthdays, baby showers, hen-dos, catch-ups after the working week, or the perfect excuse to have a midday light feast! More commonly, boozy brunches have become a common favourite amongst the day-drinking culture, and are the perfect way to line your stomach before continuing on for an afternoon of cocktails and antics.
Our Italian Twist On Brunch
Here at Valles at 44, we are launching our own bottomless brunch every Saturday,
infused with our signature, Italian twist. Our menu is full of classic brunch dishes such as eggs benedict and avocado smash, which will all come served on sourdough toast. Our Italian-inspired option is a continental antipasti breakfast which consists of cured Italian meats, sun-dried tomatoes, aubergine, sliced pecorino cheese and rustic bread. Every brunch menu traditionally comes with a bottomless drink, sometimes bellinis and mimosas; however – we are offering Italy’s most refreshing beverage: the Aperol Spritz. As an alternative, you could also choose prosecco should you prefer (or non-alcoholic cocktails are available at a reduced price if you’re not feeling boozy)!
